Mikini Mechatronics story begins in 2005, when our parent company was working on a research and design project that required samples of multiple iterations of a small piece of semi custom hardware. Each prototype could be made easily on a CNC machine, but the setup and programming translation time that was required made such operations cost prohibitive at today's job shop rates. We looked into all of the available CNC machines, and ended up buying a new Benchtop CNC mill that looked promising.
We quickly found out that it was not suited to our workspace, did not meet its published tolerances, frequently had wiring problems, and in the end was definitely not a viable solution for our needs. We spent over 6 months trying to solve problems with the mill, and at the same time find something better off the shelf. When they failed on both attempts, we set out to develop a class defining CNC machining product scaled to these specific needs, and along the way developed the components and systems required to do so. We became Mikini Mechatronics in 2006 and launched our first machining center in 2008. Read more here.
